Couple needing Family Mediation

Separation and divorce can be a stressful, lonely and worrying time. Family Mediation can help.

Disputes about finances, ownership of property and arrangements for the children can feel impossible to resolve alone. At East Surrey Family Mediation we offer you a private, cost effective and constructive way to resolve such issues.

Our professional family mediators will work with you to consider each aspect of the dispute. We will help you identify and explore possible options so you can both come to an agreement.

What happens in family mediation?

Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM)

You will first meet with our mediator for an initial confidential meeting in which you can explain what has been happening for you, what you feel the issues are and how you would like to resolve them. The mediator will also be able to tell you more about the mediation process and answer any questions you might have. The mediator will then meet with the other person for the same purpose.

Joint Mediation Meeting

Joint Family Mediation Session

If both of you are willing, your mediator will see you together in a joint mediation session.

At these joint mediation sessions, your mediator will help you to consider the issues and reach decisions about how to go forward.

The number of joint mediation sessions needed will depend on the issues involved and their complexity. Family Mediations involving only children issues usually take fewer sessions than those involving children, property and finance known as an ‘All Issues Mediation’.

Outcomes and Agreements

We can record any and all joint decisions and agreements reached during mediation, in a written document, which can be considered and approved by the court. These written documents are charged for separately.
